I was a student at Tiverton High School Many years ago. I graduated in 1982. Mr.Cummings was my Vice Principal. As most V.P.s do he had to deal with students who may have fractured a rule or two. That was me. I was also a student who could easily go un-noticed. I was not the best student to say the least. However whenever I was sent to the office, Mr.Cummings listened. I might not always have liked what he had to say but what he said made sense. So much sense that with his support and the support of some great teachers I did graduate. Go to college then to Grad school and post graduate work.
I saw him some time ago at a local restaurant. I said hello and thanked him. He graciously spoke with me but perhaps he did not really know the effect he had on me. Sometimes the simple things we do in life make the greatest difference. He listened and didn't yell.
What do I do now. I teach. I work with those kids that could easily go un-noticed.
Mr.Cummings, You were noticed.

Thank You,
Paul Silvia

As children we spent many summers in our family home in Island Park in the early 50's until Carol took our home 1 mile inland. Charlie was not only a cousin but a friend.
